Poker Palace in North Las Vegas Paves Way for Revival in 2026

The Poker Palace, a long-standing establishment in North Las Vegas, is gearing up for a transformative phase under its new owners. Truckee Gaming, headquartered in Reno, has reached a deal to acquire the casino, which has been a community fixture since 1974. After serving under the Coleman family's ownership for over half a century, the casino will momentarily shut its doors on October 1 to pave the way for a comprehensive renovation. This step signifies an important milestone for Truckee Gaming, marking its significant foray into the Las Vegas gambling scene. The transition includes the temporary closure of the casino, affecting approximately 126 employees. While the majority of hourly workers will face job losses, several managers and salaried personnel will be redirected to other properties owned by Truckee during the renovation period. Truckee Gaming envisions this venture as an opportunity to enhance its presence in Las Vegas, complementing its existing portfolio of ten casinos in Nevada.

Planned Renovations to Elevate Casino Experience

Truckee Gaming has big plans for revamping Poker Palace, aiming to redefine its appeal among local patrons. During a recent Nevada Gaming Control Board meeting, company representatives elaborated on their ambitious blueprint for the casino's facelift. The revamp includes a refreshed exterior design, updates to the venue's interiors, installation of new carpets and ceilings, and strategic realignment of the main entrance to improve alignment with parking facilities. The renovation aims to expand the casino floor, upgrade restrooms, and create additional office space. Food services within Poker Palace will undergo significant upgrades as well. Plans include expanding the kitchen to accommodate a new fast-food outlet featuring 32 seats, thereby elevating the dining options for visitors. Truckee Gaming officials noted that Poker Palace has seen limited investments in recent years. Thus, the renovations are expected to rejuvenate the venue, positioning it as a formidable competitor for the local gaming audience.

Strategic Investment and Future Prospects

Truckee Gaming's Chief Operating Officer, Pete McHugh, emphasized the importance of these upgrades to capture a broader customer base. The casino aims to enhance its attraction by integrating new slot machines, advanced gaming systems, and superior amenities. McHugh highlighted that financial investments in both the property and service offerings are central to Truckee's strategic goals. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has already granted Truckee a limited license, a significant step forward. The Nevada Gaming Commission will soon review the transaction, paving the way for final licensing approval once renovations conclude, potentially leading to Poker Palace's grand reopening by mid-2026. This endeavor represents Truckee’s inaugural direct investment within Las Vegas, a move that underscores the company's confidence in the potential of North Las Vegas’ market. Despite a challenging year for the Las Vegas Strip, North Las Vegas experienced a slight rise in casino earnings, reinforcing Truckee's vision in revamping the iconic establishment.
