Germany's €5 Slot Spin Is Live for Players Who Cleared 90 Days

Germany has not scrapped the €1 spin on licensed virtual slots. It has layered two higher steps on top, and by late October 2026 the top step is no longer a July press note. The Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL) used § 22a (7) of the Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021 to allow a staged departure from one euro a game from 1 July 2026. The default in the treaty is still €1. Operators who hold the extra permission can offer up to €3, then up to €5, only to players who meet the tests. The whole higher-stake regime is time-limited: the GGL says it runs at the latest until 31 December 2027.

The player-facing GGL FAQ is the document that matters if you actually play. Under 21 stays on €1. Age 21 and over can be moved to €3. The jump from €3 to €5 needs a 90-day qualification with no conspicuous play under the ordinary monitoring in § 6i (1) GlüStV 2021, plus a special stake-limit monitor, consent to that processing, and quarterly reporting if the monitor later flags addiction risk. The FAQ’s own example is blunt: a player with no conspicuous play from 1 July 2026 completed the 90 days on 29 September 2026. That window is behind us. Rooms on the Germany casino list that applied for the higher stake can now, in principle, put a €5 button in front of those accounts.

None of that is an entitlement. The GGL says offering the higher stake is voluntary. A licensed operator can keep every spin at €1. A player who meets the age and 90-day tests still has no right to be lifted. If the room’s permission does not cover the second stage, or the account fails the monitor, the spin stays where it was. Do not treat a banner that says “up to €5” as proof that your account is in stage two.

The deposit cap is a separate machine. Cross-operator monthly deposits into licensed German gambling still sit at €1,000 unless a higher personal limit is granted under the same treaty, and LUGAS is what blocks the next top-up when the file is full. Raising the spin does not raise that wallet. A €5 slot with a €1,000 monthly ceiling is still a tightly boxed product next to an unlicensed lobby. That gap is why the GGL used the “changed circumstances” clause in § 22a (7) sentence 2: keep players inside the licensed channel instead of watching them leave for sites that ignore both the spin and the deposit file.

Virtual slots in this market are not the same product as a slots lobby on an offshore brand. German virtual automaton games have to meet the treaty’s game rules, not only the stake. Pan-EU rooms on the main casino list are not a substitute for a GGL permission if you are playing from Germany. The order in how to choose an online casino in 2026 still starts with the licence and the country that is allowed to take you. Finland is opening a licensed market in 2027, which is the other direction, in Wildz and the Finnish licence letter. Brazil has just shut a licensed sports-bet and online-casino market with MP 1.394. Germany is trying to keep its licensed channel alive by loosening one number, not by dropping the rest of the box.

What to check before you assume the new spin applies to you: you are 21 or older; the operator is on the GGL side of the market, not a mirror; the account has been through the 90-day watch if you want more than €3; and the room has actually switched the higher stake on. If any of those fail, you are still on €1, which remains the legal default. Gamble only with money you can afford to lose, and only where the operator is allowed to take you.
