Live Dealer or Slots: Evolution Takes the Tables, and the Reels Stay Split

Live Dealer or Slots: Evolution Takes the Tables, and the Reels Stay Split

A slot round is one player and a result the studio has already priced. The return sits in the game rules, and in Sweden that return is not the same at every operator. Bettingbladet's first-half 2026 sample put the average return of selected popular slots between about 93.8 percent and 96.3 percent, depending on the brand. The same title can pay differently in two lobbies. Coolbet sat at the top of that sample, at 96.26 percent.

A live table works on a clock you do not set. Play closes, the dealer deals or the wheel turns, and the result is the cards or the number. Blackjack, roulette and baccarat are the usual seats. A game show such as Crazy Time is still a live studio, but the wheel and the bonus rounds behave more like a slot feature than like a hand of blackjack.

The wheel is maths. The slot is a setting.

European roulette uses 37 pockets and a single zero. An even-money result loses on that one pocket, so the house edge is 1 in 37, or 2.70 percent. An American wheel adds a double zero, 38 pockets, and the even-money edge rises to 2 in 38, or 5.26 percent. The felt should say which wheel you are on before you sit down.

Blackjack does not have one edge. The number of decks, whether the dealer hits a soft 17, and whether surrender is offered all move it, and the edge assumes the player follows basic strategy for those exact rules. A slot does not ask for that. It also does not publish one return for every site. Read the rules of the game you opened.

Free-spin offers are usually built for slots, not for a live shoe. If the offer is why you opened the account, the free-spins terms matter more than any studio's market share.

Evolution's own accounts are a live business

For 2025, Evolution reported net revenue of EUR 2,066.5 million. Live revenue was EUR 1,772.6 million. RNG, the slot side, was EUR 294.0 million. In the second quarter of 2026 the split still had the same shape: live EUR 437.3 million and RNG EUR 80.5 million, inside net revenue of EUR 517.8 million. Those figures are Evolution's revenue, not a share of every casino in the world. They come from Evolution's year-end presentation and the company's financial data page.

The group is not only a live studio. Its 2025 annual report describes one integration that carries Evolution, Ezugi, NetEnt, Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City. NetEnt, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City are slot studios. Ezugi is the second live brand. A lobby full of those names can still be one supplier group.

Sweden shows how concentrated a live market can get

Bettingbladet's Swedish Online Gambling Market Report for the first half of 2026, written up by G3 Newswire on 15 September 2026, estimates Evolution at about 77 percent of Swedish live-casino turnover. Pragmatic Play's live games are estimated at 12.5 percent. Every other live supplier together is about 10.5 percent. Crazy Time alone is estimated at about 10 percent of Evolution's Swedish live turnover. The report says these shares are estimates where a full dataset was not available.

That is one licensed market, Sweden, not a world ranking. It is still the clearest public picture of how little room the other live studios have once Evolution is in the lobby. Playtech and Pragmatic Play both sell live tables. In that Swedish estimate, only Pragmatic Play shows up as a second name with a share of its own.

The reels are a split decision

The same report estimates Pragmatic Play at 21.9 percent of Swedish online slot turnover, Play'n GO at 21.1 percent, and Hacksaw Gaming at 10.9 percent. Book of Dead led the game list. Starburst, Legacy of Dead and Fire Joker stayed in the ten most-played, with Pirots 4 and Gates of Olympus 1000 among the newer titles.

No single studio owns that list the way Evolution owns the live estimate. Pragmatic Play is ahead, and two other studios are close enough that a lobby can feel like theirs instead.

Which one to open

Open a live table when you want blackjack, baccarat or roulette and you will wait for the round. Look at the wheel, single zero or double zero, before you play. The live dealer casino list is the set of rooms that publish that lobby.

Open a slot when you want a short round, a feature, or a free-spin offer. Then open the rules and see the return that operator configured. The slots piece names the studios players actually open, and the slots guide is the catalogue.

Open a game show when you want the studio and you accept swings that look more like a slot feature than a blackjack hand. Crazy Time is the title the Swedish estimate puts at the front of that shelf.

Poker is a third thing. You are playing other people, not a wheel and not a reel.

None of these shares tells you whether the room will pay you. The licence, the wagering and the payment method are the other half, and they are the subject of how to choose an online casino.
